Solutions Engineer

We're truly grateful that so many people have Foundant on their radar — it means a lot that our work resonates with others. That said, due to the high volume of direct messages and emails we receive, cold outreach isn't the preferred way to be considered for a role, and we're not able to prioritize applications submitted this way. To apply for open positions, please visit our careers page, which is the fastest and most effective route to being considered.

At Foundant, we build mission-critical software for the social good ecosystem — helping foundations, grantmakers, nonprofits, and community organizations streamline their work, strengthen relationships, and maximize their impact. We serve the giving community worldwide with a comprehensive suite of solutions spanning grant management, community foundation software, and giving analytics.

We're a unified company shaped by strong roots across our product portfolio, and we operate with intention and purpose. Our team of ~350 people across six countries is connected by a shared North Star: to be the trusted partner and strategic advisor to the communities we serve.

• As a remote-first workplace, we believe in offering flexibility and the freedom to work where it suits you best, while staying connected through technology. Our global network of talent is supported by physical office hubs and virtual collaboration, fostering a dynamic environment where innovation and growth thrive.
• With office locations in Bozeman, MT, Toronto, Canada, and Dublin, Ireland, you'll be part of a globally connected team. Whether you're working remotely or from one of our office locations, you'll be contributing to a vibrant, collaborative culture focused on driving meaningful impact across the world.

• You'll serve as Foundant's product expert on CommunitySuite — its architecture, functionality, and application across the foundation landscape — and become the person Sales trusts to make a complex solution feel clear.

• You'll participate in discovery conversations that get past the stated requirements to the real problem, drawing on your accounting background to ask the questions a prospect's finance team would ask.

• You'll design and deliver tailored product demonstrations for finance and executive decision-makers, connecting specific capabilities to the outcomes a foundation is actually trying to reach for the communities it serves.

• You'll own the technical portions of proposals and RFP responses, and you'll set up and shepherd product evaluation environments through the evaluation process.

• You'll evaluate legacy system data and recommend the migration path that gets a client to a clean start — being straight with them about the effort and tradeoffs involved rather than promising the easy answer.

• You'll resolve technical objections in the sales cycle, engineering answers in real time and communicating when to pull in expertise from Product, Client Services, or Engineering rather than guessing.

• You'll support the handoff from Sales to Client Services on large and complex implementations, staying involved enough that what was promised in the sales cycle is what actually gets built.

• You'll represent Foundant at conferences, workshops, webinars, and user groups, and you'll carry what you hear from prospects and clients back to Product as advocacy for enhancements that benefit the sector.

• Other duties as assigned.

• 4+ years of accounting experience within the philanthropic sector, or equivalent experience as a pre-sales or solutions engineer for an accounting or fund accounting software application

• In-depth knowledge of accounting and financial reporting, including fund accounting concepts

• Working knowledge of how foundations operate, including their finance, grantmaking, and donor-facing functions

• Demonstrated experience delivering software demonstrations or technical presentations to decision-makers

• Experience presenting to and advising executive-level stakeholders

• Exposure to change management or business process reengineering methodologies

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field (preferred)

• Ability to travel approximately 10–20%
• Must be legally eligible to work in the United States or Canada

• Business Insight: Translates CommunitySuite's fund accounting and reporting capabilities into the financial and operational outcomes a foundation actually cares about, and stays fluent in the sector and regulatory trends shaping what prospects ask for.

• Service Orientation: Treats a prospect's evaluation as the start of a client relationship rather than the end of a sales cycle — surfacing constraints and tradeoffs honestly, because a client's outcome is Foundant's outcome.

• Productive Collaboration: Partners closely with Sales, Product, Client Services, and Engineering throughout the cycle, and makes the transition to implementation genuinely clean by communicating clearly what was promised and what it will take to deliver.

• Active Learning: Stays current on CommunitySuite releases, fund accounting practice, and competitive positioning — and shares what they learn with the team instead of holding it.

• At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to innovation and making a positive impact. Whether you’re working on projects that empower not-for-profits, community foundations, or corporations, your contributions will help drive real-world change.
• We offer competitive salary and benefits, including tuition, and lifestyle reimbursements, and bespoke mindfulness and fitness initiatives.
• With our Flexible PTO policy, you’ll have the freedom to manage your time in a way that supports your personal well-being and professional success.
• We’re committed to your professional and personal development.  With our merger, you'll have the chance to collaborate across teams, giving you exposure to diverse ideas, expertise, and projects that span multiple industries.
• As part of a larger organization, you’ll have even more opportunities to grow your career. Whether it’s exploring new roles, leadership opportunities, or shifting to a different department, we support internal mobility to help you achieve your career goals
• You’ll enjoy autonomy and responsibility, empowering you to approach your work creatively and independently, fostering innovation and independent thought.
• Employee recognition is a core part of our culture. When you do a great job, we make sure everyone knows about it!
