ABOUT GATHER
Gather exists because God is moving through His Church, and our role is to help people see it, celebrate it, and join in. We gather and mobilize the Church globally and locally to bring the love of Jesus to the unreached — through large-scale events, discipleship resources, and storytelling that points people back to Him. What began with our catalytic event, Gather25, is already bearing fruit — countless people meeting Jesus for the first time, believers rediscovering their faith, and communities changed in ways we're still hearing stories about.
Led by Jennie Allen, Gather is pursuing a bold vision: to gather and mobilize 1 billion people by 2033, see 250 million come to faith, unite 1,000 cities, and raise up 1 million intercessors praying for revival. We believe this mission is bigger than any one church, ministry, or movement — so we're partnering with kingdom-minded organizations around the world to equip believers, expand our reach, and help move the Church toward what He's already doing.
The Senior Copywriter is responsible for how Gather communicates across email, social media, campaigns, and internal channels. Every message should sound like Gather, tell the story of what God is doing around the world, and invite people to take part. The candidate we're looking for is an experienced writer who can tell a good story, understand different audiences, and make complex ideas easy to understand. You'll write approximately 10 to 15 pieces each week and work closely with our Design, Storytelling, Development, and Partnerships teams. This role requires strong writing, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work quickly without sacrificing quality.
- Email and Campaigns: Write subject lines, campaign emails, registration reminders, donor appeals, and ongoing communications. You'll write for pastors, partners, donors, IF women, and Gather Group hosts. Each audience has different needs, and the writing should reflect that.
- Social and Digital: Write captions, carousels, short video scripts, and paid social copy for Gather, Gather27, and IF. Lead copy development for major announcements, speaker reveals, registration launches, and giving campaigns. Keep messaging consistent across channels while adapting the writing to each platform.
- Voice and Tone: Maintain a consistent voice across Gather's different expressions. Gather27 is bold and cinematic. IF is personal and honest. Gather Cities is grounded in local communities. Develop and maintain a voice guide with examples. Review and edit copy from staff, partners, and agencies to keep our communications consistent.
- Stories and Full-Funnel Copy: Work with the Director of Marketing and Senior Storytelling Manager to turn stories from churches and individuals around the world into emails, social posts, campaigns, and donor communications. Adapt each story to its audience and purpose. Give readers a clear next step, whether that's hosting, praying, giving, or getting involved.
- Testing and Results: Test subject lines and calls to action at least twice a month. Review email engagement, clicks, registrations, and conversions in HubSpot. Share findings with the Director of Marketing and apply what you learn to future campaigns.
- 6+ years of professional copywriting, with at least 3 writing email and social for a brand, nonprofit, or ministry where results were measured (opens, clicks, registrations, gifts)
- A portfolio with range: long-form (donor letters, nurture emails), short-form (subject lines, captions), and scripts, all holding one consistent brand voice
- Command of voice and tone, shown by adapting one message for a pastor, a donor, and a first-time follower without losing the voice
- Uses audience insight and performance data in HubSpot or a similar platform (segments, A/B tests, click and conversion reports) to shape and sharpen copy
- Tells real stories from the field with dignity and accuracy across cultures, and writes plainly enough to translate well
- Personal, thriving relationship with Jesus Christ and alignment with Gather's mission
