Senior AI Engineer
Inato · Full-time · Posted 2w ago
Inato is a Tech for Good company striving to bring clinical research to each and every patient, regardless of who they are or where they live. To do this, we are building the world's first clinical trial platform to create greater visibility, access, and engagement across a more diverse population of doctors and their patients.
Drug development is a challenging, intellectually complex, and rewarding endeavor: we enable global pharmaceutical companies to confidently partner with community-based researchers to increase patient access to the latest medical innovations. Our AI-powered platform currently offers clinical trials from leading companies to over 5,500 sites across the globe and we are well poised for growth in 2026.
We are a growing team of passionate pharmaceutical experts, software and AI engineers, professional services members, and many more—all bringing their unique perspectives to solve the challenges facing clinical research.
Inato is the recent recipient of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies of 2024, Fierce Healthcare’s Fierce 15, and Built In's Best Places to Work 2025.
We are looking for a dedicated and creative AI Engineer to join our team. As an essential contributor to our mission of transforming healthcare, you'll play a leading role in building AI-driven solutions that directly influence clinical research and, ultimately, improve patient care. We’ve already deployed multiple AI use cases in production, and your skills will be crucial in pushing the boundaries of healthcare AI.
In this role, you'll take on complex challenges that will stretch your abilities and creativity:
Choose and orchestrate the right models to process and analyze multimodal data
Design and implement cutting-edge RAG techniques to efficiently handle large medical documents and patient histories
Build agentic systems to revolutionize key aspects of drug development such as patient recruitment or site selection
Work closely with cross-functional teams (software engineers, product managers, data engineers) to seamlessly integrate AI into our platform
Implement robust and scalable pipelines that meet production-grade engineering standards
Here are some examples of projects you might work on:
Our prescreening tool: an app relying on the latest reasoning models and visual RAG to accelerate patient recruitment. It's already being used across hundreds of clinical sites to assess patient eligibility at scale. You may find more on this in our publication: https://arxiv.org/abs/2503.15374
Our site selection agent: an agentic assistant coupled with a mathematical optimizer to assist pharmaceutical sponsors in their search for efficient clinical sites and find the right mix of sites for every study
Several years of engineering experience with machine learning, data science, or AI at the centre of your work, not alongside it.
You’ve shipped LLM-based features (OpenAI, Anthropic, RAG setup, agent setup, LLM observability tools etc.) that real users use, and you’ve lived with them afterwards: fixed them when they broke, iterated when they underperformed, watched how people actually used them.
Python proficiency
Strong problem-solving skills
Strong communication skills, oral and written, both English and French
Strong product mindset able to challenge the product roadmap directly with our CPO
Knowledge about LLM’s evaluation challenges
Ability to autonomously deliver clean and production-ready code
ML engineers and data scientists who moved into LLM work as it matured.
Researchers who moved into production.
Software engineers who went deep on AI and stayed there.
your AI work has been research, prototypes or POCs with nothing shipped and maintained in production.
you’ve spent most of your career in software engineering and shipped your first AI feature in the last year.
Our mission is to make clinical trials more accessible and inclusive. We value diverse backgrounds and experiences, bringing together industry veterans with fresh perspectives to advance the clinical trials industry.
