About the Role
Lola Blankets is a fast-growing comfort and lifestyle brand on a mission to make the world a cozier place. We are seeking an Accounting Manager to own the company's cost of goods sold, inventory, and revenue accounting. You'll be a core part of a Finance team that's actively building, with real exposure to the operations of the entire business.
This is a hands-on, individual contributor role; however, this position is designed to grow with the business and take on broader scope over time. It is built for a self-starter who does the work rather than delegates it, and who can be handed a messy problem and drive it to a clean answer without being managed through it. As the team grows, you’ll have the chance to bring on and develop a hire of your own. If you like owning your work end-to-end and watching it scale with the company, we want to meet you!
This role will be responsible for delivering an accurate, timely, and well-supported close across COGS, inventory, and revenue, and for owning these workstreams end-to-end so the Controller can focus on treasury, tax, audit, and strategic priorities. The right person is resourceful, comfortable with ambiguity, and takes ownership by default. They ask sharp questions, then run.
Core Responsibilities
COGS Accounting
- Own the monthly COGS close, including landed cost and duty loading, lot-level costing, and channel splits across DTC, wholesale, and retail.
- Maintain the COGS bridge and supporting entries, reconcile COGS to inventory movement and revenue, and support three-way match and invoice-to-PO reconciliation for inventory purchases in partnership with AP.
Inventory Accounting
- Own inventory accounting end to end, including in-transit and on-water classification, received goods, and unbilled accruals.
- Reconcile inventory between the WMS (source of truth), QuickBooks, and vendor records.
- Investigate and clear negative, zero-dollar, and adjustment variances with clear reason codes.
Revenue Reconciliation
- Own revenue reconciliation across Shopify, wholesale, and the GL.
- Tie out orders, fees, discounts, and returns, and resolve variances between channel systems and QuickBooks.
- Ensure revenue and related COGS are recognized in the correct period.
Month-End Close & Audit Support
- Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and account rollforwards for COGS, inventory, and revenue.
- Own the close calendar for these areas independently, meet internal deadlines, and surface risks early with a proposed solution, not just a flag.
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for the annual audit and tax filings related to these areas.
Process, Systems, & Controls
- Build, document, and enforce repeatable processes and controls across COGS, inventory, and revenue.
- Identify and implement automation and process improvements on your own initiative to reduce manual work and improve accuracy and audit readiness.
- Work within QuickBooks, Bill.com, the WMS, Shopify, and related financial systems, continuously improving utilization and reporting.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Build strong relationships with Operations, Inventory Planning, and Product teams to align on inventory movement, costing, and timing, and to keep source data clean and reliable.
This role will report to the Controller. Open to remote candidates, as well as candidates in New York City and Salt Lake City who would prefer to be hybrid in our offices 3 days per week.
Qualifications
- 4-6 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on inventory COGS, or revenue
- Strong understanding of inventory accounting, landed cost, and cost of goods sold
- Strong month-end close experience, including journal entries, reconciliations, and rollforwards
- Proven ability to own workstreams independently and drive them to completion with minimal oversight
- Bias toward action and a roll-up-your-sleeves mindset; does the work directly and takes it to a finished answer
- Resourceful and comfortable with ambiguity; figures things out rather than waiting to be told how
- Advanced Excel skills; comfort working with large data sets across multiple systems (QuickBooks, Bill.com, or similar)
- Detail-oriented with a strong process and controls mindset
- Preferred: Experience with a WMS or inventory management system as a source of truth
