Senior Engineer II, Proxy
Menlo Security · Full-time · Posted 5d ago
Menlo Security is the leader in Browser Security for human and agentic workforces. Our mission is to enable humans and agents to connect, communicate, and collaborate securely, without compromise. The Menlo Browser Security Platform protects organizations from cyberattacks by stopping threats across the web, documents, and email before they reach the user. With Menlo Agent Runtime Security (MARS), that protection now extends to the AI agents working alongside every employee. Menlo Security is trusted by major global businesses, including Fortune 500 companies and government agencies, to protect their most valuable asset, their data, and is backed by top-tier investors.
We're hiring a senior engineer to join the team that owns the ingress proxy service. The proxy is the primary path into the product for most users. As AI adoption grows, our customers want one set of controls for both people and agents. The ingress proxy is where those controls start, and you'll help extend it to cover agent traffic. Your decisions here directly affect security, performance. You'll join a small team that values autonomy and ships with little process overhead. You'll own features from design to production, and you'll help shape how the system evolves.
Strong Systems Programming Background: Solid hands-on experience building and maintaining production systems in Rust or Go, with a preference for languages that offer strong safety guarantees in critical applications.
Passion for the Craft: You care about building software the right way. Correctness, scalability, and maintainability matter to you beyond just getting a feature out the door.
Focus on Performance Optimization: Demonstrated ability to optimize for latency and throughput in networked applications, using profiling tools and efficient concurrency models to handle demanding workloads.
Security-Oriented Engineering Practices: Strong background in implementing secure systems, with a proactive approach to threat modeling, vulnerability mitigation, and ensuring data integrity in distributed environments.
Expertise in Asynchronous Programming: You've built and operated async services that handle high concurrency in production. You understand backpressure, cancellation, and the failure modes that come with non-blocking I/O.
Problem-Solving for Legacy Rewrites: Experience uplifting legacy systems while they stay in production, moving traffic over safely and in stages, refactoring into more robust architectures, evaluating trade-offs in language choices while favoring those that align with long-term maintainability and security.
Commitment to Testing and Verification: History of employing comprehensive testing strategies, including fuzzing, property-based testing, and integration tests, to validate correctness under various failure scenarios.
Collaborative Technical Leadership: Ability to articulate and defend architectural decisions in team settings, while sharing best practices for secure software development.
Strategic Use of AI Tools: Proficiency in leveraging LLMs thoughtfully and selectively to boost productivity, while critically assessing outputs for correctness, maintainability, fit with the system's architecture, and alignment with broader engineering goals.
Ownership: Be responsible for the full lifecycle of the services you build, working closely with existing team members who have deep context on the system.
Communication: Work with your team, and across teams, to understand customer needs, refine requirements, implement, review, and deliver changes.
● 5+ years of experience building and operating production systems
● Working knowledge of HTTP and TLS
● Experience in Rust or Go strongly preferred

Why Menlo?
At Menlo, we don't settle for the status quo — in our technology or our culture. How we think and act is just as important as what we build. Our culture is defined by five core mindsets: Proactive Leadership, Straight Talk, United Impact, Elevated Talent, and Customer-Compelled. We take ownership and drive outcomes without waiting to be told. We communicate directly and seek hard truths. We break down silos and win together. We hold a high bar for ourselves and the people around us. And we treat every customer interaction as mission-critical. If you're someone who sees it, owns it, solves it, and does it — you'll thrive here.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, sex, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, or on the basis of disability.
TO ALL AGENCIES: Please, no phone calls or emails to any employee of Menlo Security outside of the Talent organization. Menlo Security’s policy is to only accept resumes from agencies via Ashby (ATS).
